Landing

The plane was getting close to the ground and everyone had this familiar feeling that comes just before landing. It was clear, bright morning. I looked down at the land. Green fields lay between mountains that looked like they were protecting them.

As we descended, I noticed little flashes of light coming from the small towns beneath us. The sun was hitting windows and car windshields, sending quick glints up into the sky as if the houses were winking at us, saying hello.

It was beautiful. Like little sparks. Like sunlight dancing across the surface of a lake. And for a moment, it felt like this quick show was just for us and the birds.

Sometimes, the nicest welcome doesn’t come from people, but from sunlight reflected in someone’s window.
